Scouting Startups – Our 2017 Tour Around the World

While we’re excited to run the F10 Accelerator & Incubator in Zurich, we are aware of the global FinTech movement. We will travel around the world to meet all the brilliant startups out there and invite them to our accelerator program.

FinTech has exploded over the last years. While investment booms, the finance and banking world has been transformed by innovations that focus on digitalizing the customer journey of banks. These changes haven’t been driven by established financial players, but by FinTech startups, that achieved to transform their disrupting ideas into customer-centric companies. Those startups are setting the pace for innovation.

The adventure starts

Our scouting tour started at ‘Europe’s craziest startup conference’, the Pirate Summit in Cologne. The conference aims to bring together the movers and shakers of the digital world and represents true grassroots entrepreneurship. Our startup coach, James, participated to meet different types of startups and to discuss how they could apply their technologies to the finance space. James successfully talked with over two dozen startups and we’re proud to announce that some of them already applied for our next P2 program. Some more advanced startups will look to apply for our P3 program that will begin accepting application later in the year.

To promote F10 to entrepreneurs in Zurich, James’s journey continued at the Startup Grind, a conference by the global startup community founded in Silicon Valley, but run locally in Switzerland by David Butler and one of our mentor Silke Wolfe. It was very interesting to hear the journey of how the non FinTech company, Movu, grew to the point where they were acquired by Baloise.

The tour progressed in Zurich as Markus, co-founder of the F10, presented and participated at the Hack Zurich. A leading hackathon with over 550 international participants working over 72 hours to deliver a first prototype.

Our next stop will be the InsurTech hackathon in Copenhagen. We’re excited what our ambitious colleague Fabian will tell about his experiences hacking the whole weekend and catching up with some experts from the insurance industry.
